A portrait tattoo only works if the person is instantly recognisable. That comes down to the eyes, the proportions and the way light falls across the face, which is why I build every portrait around a strong reference photo and a clear plan for contrast.
I’m a black and grey realism tattoo artist in Taunton with over 17 years’ experience. I tattoo family, friends, musicians, icons and loved ones who are no longer here, and I design each piece to sit properly on the body, not just look good on paper.

How big should a portrait tattoo be?
Faces need room for detail. Smaller portraits can work, but larger gives smoother shading and holds up better over time. We’ll agree the size at your consultation.
Can you work from an old or low-quality photo?
Often, yes. Send the best photo you have and I’ll tell you honestly what’s achievable before you pay a deposit.
Do you tattoo memorial portraits?
Yes. Memorial portraits are some of the most meaningful work I do, and I take the time to get them right.
